No trip to New York City would be
complete without a visit to Ground Zero.
It's hard to explain the feelings that came over us as
we viewed the 'hole' where
once stood two majestic buildings, and which held the
lives of so many people
from around the globe.
There is a collection of Timeline boards along
the fence enclosing Ground Zero.
It takes you through the whole morning, minute by
minute.

This is a picture of the Globe
that once stood in front of the World Trade Centre.
The picture was taken from quite a distance, through the
bus window.
The Globe now sits in Battery Park, which is under
construction so we
couldn't get a closer view.
You can see the damage to the Globe...the hole in the
top, the dents etc....
all happened when the buildings fell.
The "I" beam which was found at the
top of the collapsed Trade Centre Buildings,
and was in the shape of a cross. It has been
mounted for all to see, and to remember.
What most people don't realize, is that workers are
still clearing, by hand, the subway station
that runs under the World Trade Centre. It's
painstaking work, as machines can't get
into the space to clear it. Workers carry each
piece of rubble to the waiting trucks to
take it away.
This was the sign outside a Fire Hall that we
visited. It was one of the
first responders on 911. These are their comrades
that are still
missing....no remains have been found.
