As part of its Public Recognition Awards, the Mayor and Council's
“Children First” Roundtable yesterday recognized the outstanding
contribution of Mr. Peter Williams to the lives of Greater Sudbury
children. On behalf of Mayor Jim Gordon and City Council, Roundtable
Co-Chairs, Councillor Louise Portelance and Janet Gasparini, honoured
Peter in a special ceremony before their final meeting until the fall.
Mayor Gordon commented: “Peter Williams deserves this kind of special
recognition for his investment in area youth over the last twenty
years.”
Dave Battaino, who nominated Peter for the award, said, “Peter's
outstanding activities as a Big Brother, keynote speaker for numerous
childrens' agencies, telethon host extraordinaire, and many other
exceptional contributions over the last 20 years make him a worthy
Featured Nominee for this award.”
Previous Featured Nominees include Dan Gareau, Clement Lafreničre and
Dr. Todd Plexman.
Sally Spence, Chair of the Public Recognition Committee for the
‘Children First' Roundtable, says many other individuals, businesses and
organizations will be honoured. “We want to acknowledge and
express sincere appreciation to people and groups that display outstanding
effort and success in putting Children First.” Normally, each
month before the Roundtable's regular meeting, a “featured nominee” is
recognized, but everyone nominated receives a letter from Mayor Gordon and
a recognition certificate.
