Greater Sudbury Transit is rolling out additional services this month
for residents of Capreol, Hanmer, Val Caron, Azilda, Chelmsford,
Whitefish, Naughton, Coniston, Garson and Falconbridge. Starting this
weekend, all areas will have Sunday bus service, a new route has been
added to serve the Hanmer Valley Shopping Centre, and residents of
Whitefish and Naughton will connect with regular transit service by Trans
Cab.
"We are pleased to introduce new transit services to the citizens
of Greater Sudbury," said Caroline Hallsworth, General Manager of
Citizen and Leisure Services. "Greater Sudbury Transit has proven to
be a responsive, economical service for thousands of local residents.
Transit provides an estimated 3.5 million rides each year and we are
confident there will be continued growth in passenger numbers."
A new bus route has been added to serve residents of Valley East,
starting this Saturday, May 3. Blezard/Elmview Route 704 will depart from
the Greater Sudbury Transit Centre five times daily to transport
passengers to the Hanmer Valley Shopping Centre, the Howard Armstrong
Recreation Centre, and the Citizen Service Centre/Valley East Branch of
the Greater Sudbury Public Library.
Starting this weekend, a new Sunday service schedule will run buses
every two hours between the downtown Transit Centre and Capreol, Hanmer,
Val Caron, Azilda, Chelmsford, Lively, Coniston, Garson and Falconbridge.
Trans Cab service was introduced to Naughton and Whitefish on Thursday,
May 1. Residents of these areas can connect with regular Greater Sudbury
Transit service at Battistelli’s YIG in Lively, six times daily Monday
to Friday and five times daily on Saturdays.
Effective May 1, all passengers using Trans Cab Service will pay a $2
cash fare per ride in addition to regular transit fare. "Trans Cab is
a great benefit for many residents who don’t have a vehicle," said
Roger Sauvé, Manager of Greater
Sudbury Transit. "Passengers can take a Trans Cab from their home and
connect with regular transit service, at a significantly lower cost than
traditional taxi service."
The regular cash fare for Greater Sudbury Transit is $2.10 for adults.
Adult ticket fare is $1.70 and a monthly pass is $65. For more information
