PIONEER MANOR RECEIVES FUNDING INCREASE FROM PROVINCE
WILL ENHANCE RESIDENT SERVICES |
|
Like other long term care facilities across the Province, Pioneer Manor
has received additional funding from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term
Care. The increase - $1 million on an annualized basis - will be used to
enhance resident services.
“The Ministry has recognized the need to channel additional revenue into
long-term care,” said Greater Sudbury Mayor Jim Gordon. “This is good
news for residents who will collectively and individually benefit from the
increase. The majority of funds will be directed to the nursing and
personal care of residents at Pioneer Manor.”
Pioneer Manor will add six full-time personal care staff, seven days a
week, effective next month. The facility continues to receive residents
with more complex health care needs and the additional staff will allow
for additional enhancement to the full provision of services.
“In early 2003, a full time clinical Nurse Practitioner will be hired to
complement the team of Geriatric Medical Practicioners currently providing
services at the facility,” said Dr. Maurice St. Martin, Medical Director
for Pioneer Manor.
Funds are also being allocated to enhance building maintenance,
housekeeping, occupational health and safety, occupational therapy and
equipment, including new therapeutic tubs as well as new electric beds.
“The new staffing enhancement will complement the planned improvements
to the physical site scheduled for completion in the fall of 2004,” said
Councillor Louise Portelance, Chair of the Pioneer Manor Management
Committee. |
