CHILDREN FIRST ROUNDTABLE LAUNCHES
"KIDS CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE" PUBLIC AWARENESS AWARD |
|
As part of its public recognition program, the Mayor and Council's
"Children First" Roundtable today launched its new Public
Awareness Award for children who make a difference in the lives of other
children. In a special ceremony, Grade 4 students at Copper Cliff Public
School became the first children in Greater Sudbury to nominate other
children for the "Kids Can Make a Difference" award. Mayor
Jim Gordon commented, "Our children deserve recognition when they
contribute to the lives of other children by what they say, do or
create."
Deputy Mayor Louise Portelance, Co-Chair of the "Children First"
Roundtable said, "We've done a lot to recognize how adults make
Greater Sudbury a child-friendly place, but we wanted children to know
that they could make a big difference too." Janet Gasparini,
Co-Chair of the Roundtable, added, "We asked children to create the
guidelines for this new award, and they made excellent choices."
Sally Spence, Chair of the Public Awareness and Communication Committee of
Children First, said, "We're looking for that special child between 6
and 15 - the one who helps or encourages others, treats everyone around
them with respect, tries hard, or is especially creative." |
