I was born on May 28, 1950, the oldest of
five children, to Tom and Audrey Kirwan. For the first five years of my life,
I lived in Coniston where my father was employed with INCO. At the age of five,
my father was transferred from Coniston to the Iron Ore Plant in Copper
Cliff, so we moved to Lively where I attended what was known as Lively Public School #1
(now known as Georges Vanier Public School) and then went on to graduate from
Grade 13 at Lively Secondary School in June of 1969.
I attended Waterloo University for one year (1969-1970) and then returned to Laurentian University
(1970-1972)where I completed my three-year Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Math
with a minor concentration in Economics. Upon graduating in the spring of 1972,
I married Valerie (Starcevic)
whom I had met while we were both in high school in 1968.
Valerie and I moved to North Bay immediately after our marriage where
we lived from July 1972 until June 1973 while I attended the North Bay
Teachers' College.
After graduating from Teachers' College,
I accepted a position
with the Sudbury Catholic District School Board in September 1973 and
remained with the board until my retirement, 28 years later in June 2001.
Valerie and I purchased a house in the spring of 1974 on Noel
Crescent in Val Therese and have
lived in that same house ever since.
We raised three sons, shown in the photo from the left: Warren (born
in 1977), Ryan (1975),
and Marty (1979).
All three went to St. Anne School in Hanmer, St. Charles College in
Sudbury, and then graduated from the School of Business and Commerce Program at Laurentian
University.
Valerie and I have two granddaughters: Hailee (July 3, 2004), and
Hannah (March 3, 2006), who live with their parents, Ryan and Angele (Rochette)
in Val Caron. |
