Celina Cacciotti, (left) Manager of Alumni Relations for
Cambrian College and her assistant, Tricia Valentim, were the special guests
on the April 7, 2008 edition of “Inside Education”, a local talk show
on CKLU 96.7 FM that is broadcast live every Monday evening at 6 p.m. from
the studios at Laurentian University. Robert Kirwan, an Independent Education &
Career Development Specialist who operates a private practice called The
Greater Sudbury Learning Clinic, is the producer and host of the program
which consists of an engaging conversation with a person from a different
career field each week. The purpose of the show is to provide listeners
with some valuable down-to-earth insight and information which may prove
helpful for those who are looking for tips and strategies that will help
them become more successful in their current or future careers.
Celina has been working with the Alumni Relations Department for
several years now, while Tricia has been her assistant for the past year.
Both indicate that it is absolutely wonderful to find out how graduates
are doing so many years after they left Cambrian.
They indicated that the demographics at Cambrian College reflect the
changes that are occurring with careers in the world today. Over 50% of
the student body consists of mature students - adults who are returning to
school to receive diplomas and training for new careers.
One of the listeners called in to the show and suggested that even as
people are moving about and changing careers often, they must be aware of
establishing a good track reference for future positions. Company leaders
are looking for "good people" today. If you are a good person,
you will find satisfying careers out there where employers will take time
to train you. They can always teach you skills, but they can't teach you
to become a "good person".
