Rob Brouillette was the special guest
on the April 28, 2008 edition of “Inside Education”, a local talk show
on CKLU 96.7 FM that is broadcast live every Monday evening at 6 p.m. from
the studios at Laurentian University. Robert Kirwan, an Independent Education &
Career Development Specialist who operates a private practice called The
Greater Sudbury Learning Clinic, is the producer and host of the program
which consists of an engaging conversation with a person from a different
career field each week. The purpose of the show is to provide listeners
with some valuable down-to-earth insight and information which may prove
helpful for those who are looking for tips and strategies that will help
them become more successful in their current or future careers.
Rob Brouillette, now the General Manager of City Welding, a company his
father founded, has been involved in several careers along the way, and
his best advice to young people is, "If you want something, go after
it. Shy people starve. Be aggressive. Set your goals and go get them. You
have nothing to lose by trying and asking."
Rob was born and raised in Sudbury, spending time like every other
young lad, playing hockey and enjoying the outdoors. He ended up going to
law school and was a lawyer under the mentorship of Ted Conroy for about
17 years. Rob has also been involved in representing professional athletes
as a player-agent. Today he is responsible for the day-to-day management
of City Welding, but the shortage of skilled workers in Canada has also
led him to providing services in the field of immigration law and agency.
He has assisted several foreign workers in obtaining employment in Canada,
and in particular with City Welding.
"You can't lie to the person in the mirror," Rob reflected
during a segment of the radio show. "One of the most important things
you should pay attention to is accountability. You must be responsible for
your actions and be prepared to do what it takes to fulfill your
responsibilities. No matter what you do or where you go, your reputation
will follow you. It is that reputation that is your greatest asset. It is
what you use to market yourself."
He also told people seeking careers to, "Do your homework. Find
out everything you can about the career before you invest time and money
into your future. It's your life to live. Make sure you are making the
right choices and you are doing what you love to do." |
