SMOKING AND THE MOUTH
by Nicole Dandeno
Smoking tobacco causes many systemic problems and diseases. Overwhelming evidence acquired from numerous tests indicate that a smoker's mouth is in a detrimental condition when looking from a health perspective. For starters, smokers are more likely to demonstrate gingival redness, hemorrhage, and inflammation. Studies also show that oral tissue heals slower in patients that smoke.

Periodontal or mucosal disease which are either brought on or aggravated by smoking, compromise the fit and function of the denture. Smoking also produces a higher tendency toward sore spots which will not heal as quickly as non-smokers.

Remember - smoking and dentures are two words that should not go together.
