One
of the first public meetings to be held in Valley East under the umbrella
of the City of Greater Sudbury will be held at the Centennial Arena on
Thursday, January 25, 2001 at 7:00 p.m.
The
meeting will be of special interest to all residents who are concerned
about maintaining the high quality of water in the Sudbury Region, and in
particular in Valley East. At the present time, the Sudbury District is
home to over 300 lakes of all sizes.
At
the meeting, Austin Davey, Dr. David Pearson of Science North, and a
number of other experts will be presenting information on the mandate and
responsibilities of soon to be appointed Lake Water Quality Stewardship
Committees. Volunteers from the community will be selected to sit on these
committees to oversee the maintenance of lake water quality in local lakes
and rivers. Valley East lakes of concern are Onwatin Lake, Whitson Lake,
McCrea Lake and the Joe/Frenchman group of small lakes. Anyone who has a
personal interest in the quality of these lakes should make a special
effort to attend. Nevertheless, even if you do not own lake-front
property, maintaining a high level of quality in our lakes and rivers is
something that should be a top priority on everyone’s list.
We
hope to see a good turn-out of ratepayers to this meeting. Even though our
‘City’ status was taken away from us, the ‘Spirit of Valley East’
still lives on. Show your concern by attending this very important public
meeting.
