For Marcel Charbonneau of Hanmer and John Devost & Phyllis Blain of
Blezard Valley, the Annual Christmas Decorating Contest sponsored by the
Valley East Economic Development Committee and the Vision Paper has
definitely been something to which they look forward.
For the 3rd year in a row, the two homes have been judged
winners in the contest. This year a total of 23 entries were judged by
members of the Golden Age Club who viewed the homes on December 14.
The contest was created to
encourage residents to bring the community to life during the holidays
with brightly lit Christmas decorations throughout Valley East.
Placement and variety of lights; lawn ornaments, and; the development of
a specific theme were three of the main categories that judges were
looking for when choosing a winner. The high percentage of houses with
some decorations is a reflection of the fantastic community spirit which
exists among residents of Valley East during the Christmas season.
During the first two years of the contest, Valmond Lanteigne of Val
Therese was also a winner. However, this year only two awards were handed
out, otherwise, Lanteigne would have also been in the running as a repeat
winner.
The Economic Development Committee appreciates the generous support of
local businesses who donate
prizes for the contest.
The Vision Paper congratulates all residents of Valley East who
decorated their homes this past season and who entered the contest.
