"Food For Friends" It's About Helping People

Karen Labreche, owner/operator of Curves For Women weight loss centre in Val Caron, shown on the left, along with Fitness Technicians, Sandy Martin and Jodi Wright, are shown boxing up the hundreds of pounds of food which have been donated by visitors during the month of March.

The food drive is the 4th Annual Food For Friends campaign conducted by the 3000 Curves International locations around the world. Founded by a small Christian family in Texas, the Curves International empire has been build upon those same Christian principles which recognize the importance of community. That includes not only taking care of business, but also giving back to the people who need our help the most through activities such as the "Food For Friends" campaign.

With over 350 members bringing in bags of food items in order to qualify to receive one of the special T-shirts worn by the three ladies in the photo. Last year the food drive collected a total of almost 1,000,000 pounds of non-perishable food.

Karen will distribute the food to the Good Neighbours Food Bank in Hanmer and to the St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank in Val Caron. Residents have until March 28 to drop off food at the Val Caron location of Curves For Women, found next to the Valley Bingo. Karen also reminds people that you don’t have to be a member to drop off food. As you are driving by to go to work or coming home, just stop in and leave your donations.
