Annual Knights of Columbus Cribbage Tournament Attracts 128 Competitors

Ernest and Monique Kingsley, co-ordinators of the 14th Annual Knights of Columbus Cribbage Tournament held at the Emily Street Hall on January 20, were extremely grateful to the volunteers who helped them with the event. In 1998, the Kingsley’s took over the job from Odette and Ben Dufour, who held the responsibilities for organizing the popular competition right from the time that Edgar and Jackie Leger founded the tournament.

Participants entered in teams of two, each paying an entry fee of $12. They played a total of 8 games against a variety of opponents, while enjoying food, refreshments and the good will among friends all afternoon.

This year, the team of Anne Rivest and Anita Carriere, had a perfect afternoon, winning all eight of their matches, finishing up with a point total of 968 to win the first place prize of $400. Second place, and $300, went to Laurent Dupuis and Rene Demore who won seven games and came in with a score of 957. There was a third place tie between the team of Albert Grise and Rick Bisson and the team of Don Sullivan and Fern Brunet. They scored a total of 955.

During the afternoon there were several draws held as well. Gates Poitras and Rick Trelling each won 50/50 draws, while Robert Moreau won the “special prize” in another raffle.

The money raised from the tournament will be used by the Knights of Columbus to help fund their various charitable activities during the year. The Kingsley’s wanted to express thanks to all of the Knights and their wives who helped out in any way and also to thank all those who showed their support by participating.

Residents of Valley East and Capreol are all invited to take part in the weekly cribbage tournament held every Friday night at the hall beginning at 8 p.m. The cost is only $5 per person for a night of friendly cribbage competition with your friends and neighbours. Just drop in any Friday night before 8 p.m. and enjoy the fun.
