Over 300 Students Donate Food To Watch Teachers Play Basketball At St. Anne School

What a deal! Bring in a can of food and get the last hour of school on a Friday afternoon off to watch the Boys’ Basketball team play the Teachers...no wonder the gym was packed with over 300 screaming fans!

The idea came from the St. Anne School student council as a strategy to help raise food to help the needy during this period of Lent. It was then presented to the Principal, Mr. Paul Mailloux, who thought it would be an excellent way to help out the food drive and also provide some stress release to get rid of the February blahs.

The Teachers, shown standing in the photo prior to the game (it was discovered that if this photo was taken after the game, the boys would have been the ones standing and the Teachers on the floor), were prepared to put the Boys team to the test and demonstrate that skill and experience would win out in the end. As it turned out, when this reporter asked for the game score sheet, it was nowhere to be found. To this day we have no idea who won the game, but we at least have some idea why the Teachers decided to schedule the game so that they would have two days to recover before returning to school the following Monday.

“I can’t believe how fast they were,” explained Mailloux, who thought he was in relatively good shape from playing floor hockey with “the boys” twice a week. “I always thought we ran fast when we play floor hockey, but I guess speed is all relative to who you are playing against. Those kids whizzed past us like we were standing still.”

Indeed, the St. Anne Boys Basketball team is one of the best in the Board this year and they were able to use the “game” as a tune-up for the St. Francis Boys Invitational Tournament held the following day. For the record the St. Anne Angels won the St. Francis tournament, however, we are still wondering about the score against the Teachers.

Congratulations to all of the Teachers who showed their good sportsmanship and reckless abandonment for their own safety. The big winners of the day were the needy members of the community who will benefit from the food donations brought in by the spectators.
