The
Annual Strawberry Tea sponsored by the Hanmer & Capreol District
Girl Guides is always a popular event just in time for Valentine’s
Day. The girls in the photo were kept busy with the “Cake Walk”
event with such delicious delights as the one being held by 13 year old,
April Beauchamp, a former member of the organization who came back to
help out as a volunteer. Shown in the background with April are, from the left, Brownie Cassie Young (8), Brownie Alissa Langman (8), Spark Katrina Guidotti (6), Guide Andrea Mikkila (10), and Brownie Leeza Connor (7). Commissioner,
Shelly Upton, was once again very pleased with the support she received
from her volunteers, “It is just wonderful to see so many people
helping us out this year. Volunteers are very important to the success
of our annual strawberry tea. We couldn’t do it without them.” Shelly
also pointed out that there are more and more young people giving of
their time to work with the over 100 young girls who are participating
in the program. She had special appreciation for the work of Brian
Mikkila, who helped out a great deal in the kitchen during the
afternoon. The
Strawberry Tea, which was held at the Golden Age Club on February 10,
was jam packed with over 200 visitors who enjoyed a wonderful strawberry
shortcake as well as plenty of other selections from the bake table. In
addition, there were numerous other centres to keep people of all ages
busy all afternoon. Shelly
encourages all girls to consider joining the Guiding movement. “We
always have excellent programs for the girls who will tell you that they
always find the experience very worthwhile.” Girls
who are interested in joining the organization can contact Shelly at
969-8820. There is open registration so girls can join up at any time.
The group will continue meeting until the first part of June. |
