Valley Pro Hockey School Participants Get Chance To Score Goals On
N.H.L. Star When the final whistle went to sound the end of the pick-up ball hockey game played by the 12 to 15 year-old group at the Valley Pro Hockey school, no one was happier than the goaltender. Standing at the back of the group in front of the net is the newest member of the Minnesota Wild, Valley East’s Andrew Brunette, who showed his good nature by donning the pads for the final day of the hockey school. As the ball was finding the “five-hole” and being flicked over either shoulder time and time again, it became painfully clear that Andrew had better stick to his forward position when he hits the ice with the rest of his N.H.L. buddies. This was the 5th year of operation for the Valley Pro Hockey School, which was held at the Ray Plourde Arena in Val Caron. During the one-week sessions, boys and girls from 8 to 15 years of age were put though the paces, developing their basic skills in preparation for the coming season. The instructors were professional hockey players from several different leagues who all went through part of the Valley East Minor Hockey system. |
Mini-Masters Tournament Enjoyed by over 100 Boys And Girls Neil
Cameron watches intensely as his ball rolls towards the hole during the
putting contest held as part of the Mini-Masters competition held at the
Valley Family Golf Centre on August 18. Matthieu Blais was the eventual
winner of the putting contest. Serge
Bourdeau recorded the low score of the day with a round of 24. This was
good enough for a one stroke victory over Joe Blais. Dexton Abresch,
Justin Poitras, Jordan Carrol and Lenny Breault were tied for 3rd
place with identical scores of 26. Jonathon Beeson won the first flight
with a round of 29. Aaron Miller took the 2nd flight with a
32; Robin Cameron won 3rd flight honours with a 35; and Ryan
Punkari was the 4th flight winner with a 45. The
girls championship was won by Nicole Deschamp, with a score of 32. Two
strokes behind in 2nd place was Julie Blais. The girls first
flight was won by Samantha Leroux with a 43 while Joelle Loiselle won
the 2nd flight with a round of 45. The
long drive contest was won by Lenny Brault. The
Caddy Award, given annually to one of the adults who accompany the
children, was won by Albert Leroux. Over 120 boys and girls took part in the annual event, which has become one of the most popular golfing events for young golfers over the years. |
