Valley East Community Theatre Still Looking For Help

The cast is set and over two dozen aspiring actresses and actors are working hard in preparation for the raising of the curtain on opening night of “Cinderella The True Story”. The director of the play, Tony Skopyk, who hails from Capreol is molding this major comedy along the style of a ‘Benny Hill’ and ‘Mr. Bean’. The story loosely follows the Cinderella plot, but promises some very interesting surprises during the performance.

This is the 3rd season for the Valley East Community Theatre Group. “Cinderella The True Story” is their 4th production. The part of Cinderella will be played by Nicole Proulx, who many will remember for her outstanding performance as “Beth” in “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever”. Her Prince Charming will be another well-known local actor, Greg Deschamps, who performed in “The Leader of The Pack” as well as “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.” Ron Babin, who has stepped down from his normal administrative position as general manager to play the popular “Mr. Buttons” in the production. In his absence, Colette Proulx has taken over as acting general manager.

In a recent discussion with Proulx, it was mentioned that the Theatre Group is still looking for more people to volunteer with the technical behind the scenes work. No experience is necessary - only a love of the theatre and a desire to do something that will be very rewarding.

The show will not go on without seamstresses, stage hands and lighting crew. If you are interested in helping out, call Marcel Gauthier at 858-2196 as soon as possible.

The rest of us will sit back and wait in anticipation for the tickets to go on sale around the middle of April for “Cinderella The True Story”. Dress rehearsal is scheduled for Monday, May 7 with the Gala Opening the following night. The show will then run from May 9 to 12 and 14 to 16 at the Confederation Secondary School in Val Caron.
