Sixty
boys and girls from Valley East, including seven from Verner took part
in the Annual Club Optimiste de Vallee Est Golf Tournament held at the
Clearview Golf Club on May 27. The organizer of the tournament, Suzanne
Menard, shown in the accompanying photo, is President of the Club.
“I
was born in Hanmer, then moved to Montreal for 38 years. Now I have been
back for a year and I love it,” explained Menard, whose father was the
postmaster at one time. Her family lived where the Caisse Populaire is
now located in Hanmer.
The
tournament was held on International Optimiste Day this year.
Participants were treated to a day of golf, an excellent meal and
prizes. Three golfers qualified to attend the Provincial Championships
in Cornwall.
In
the boys 16 and 17 years of age category, Tyler LeBouthillier emerged as
victor with a round of 73. This was seven strokes better than runner-up,
Zack Proulx and Jason Kauffeldt. Twelve year old, Eric Cantin, was third
overall with a score of 91. He took first place in the 12 and 13 year
old category.
LeBouthillier,
Proulx and Cantin will now be invited to represent Valley East at the
championships in Cornwall later this summer.
