Industrial Park Community Pride Project Sets The Tone For The Future

Click To EnlargeShirley Taus-Plexman, co-chair of the Valley East Economic Development Advisory Committee, and Tom Sheppard, a new member of the committee, spent several hours on a recent Saturday morning cleaning up paper and garbage in the Valley East Industrial Park. They were implementing their “Community Pride Project”, which is designed to promote a new level of pride in the community and show outsiders how much we care about Valley East. The Industrial Park was chosen as the first site for the project in order to establish the location as a good spot for future business development.

“We are hoping to do this on a much larger scale in the fall or even next year,” explained Shirley. “It would be nice if we could set aside one day each year and have everyone in the community out with their rakes and garbage bags picking up papers and other debris.”

Councillor Ron Dupuis, shown on the left in the following photo, and Bob Dykstra, co-chair of the EDAC, were also part of the clean-up crew.

“It’s amazing what people throw away,” explained Dupuis as he retrieved an old Jim Gordon election sign that was lying on the ground.”
