Joey Niceforo Proves That Valley East Is Not Just Another Hockey Town!

When Joey Niceforo was accepted into the Royal Conservatory of Music - Glenn Gould University Opera School in Toronto, he had a dream of one day becoming a professional opera singer. That dream has come true for this 22 year old Hanmer resident who is in only his 3rd year of a 5 year program. Joey has begun his career in music as an opera tenor on the International stage as a tenor member of the “Centre For Italian Culture and Education - Columbus Centre Toronto” with the “Palestrina Opera Chamber Chorus”. He was chosen to perform in Italy for two weeks in August with the chorus and also to sing solo. Joey is currently sponsored by the Italian Culture and Education Columbus Centre in Toronto.

During his two week tour, Joey was to perform at six concerts in a variety of Italian cities, including Rome. He has performed in various concerts in the Toronto area, always receiving standing ovation encores. He recently recorded his 2nd CD in Opera Recital. It is also expected that Joey Niceforo may be planning an opera concert in the fall of 2001 in Sudbury. When details are announced, we will provide all local residents with the opportunity to attend.

Niceforo graduated in June 1998 from Sudbury’s College Notre Dame. He states that when his father played opera music at home, he used to hate it, until he saw “Phantom of the Opera”. He believes that he was born with the ability to sing opera, and once he discovered this talent, all he had to do was develop it. Joey was once granted permission to meet the famous  Pavarotti backstage after a performance in Hamilton.  One day soon, it will be Joey’s turn to inspire young singers with a similar ambition. The Vision Paper wishes Joey Niceforo the best of luck as one of Valley East’s finest ambassadors.
