Seeing Is Believing... Or Is It?

Next time you find yourself backed into a corner by a youngster, wondering how you are going to answer questions about the existence of the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, or God, perhaps the following little story will help you.

One day Jenny and her friend, David, were playing outside talking excitedly about the Easter Bunny. Jenny’s older brother, Mike, over heard the conversation and ridiculed the two.

“How can you believe in such a stupid thing,” asked Mike.

Mike looked over to David and asked, “Do you see the tree over there?”

“Yes,” said David.

“Do you see the grass on the lawn?” asked Mike.

“Yes,” said David.

“Look up. Tell me if you see the clouds,” demanded Mike.

“Yes,” said David.

“Did you see the Easter Bunny?” asked Mike.

“No,” said David.

“That’s my point,” explained Mike. “We can’t see the Easter Bunny or the Tooth Fairy because they don’t exist.”

Jenny had just about had enough with her brother by this time. She turned to David and asked, “Do you see the tree over there?”

“Yes,” said David.

“Do you see the grass on the lawn?” asked Jenny.

“Yessssssss,” said David, a little annoyed that he was being asked to answer the questions all over again.

“Do you see the clouds?” asked Jenny.

“Yesssssssssss,” said David.

“Do you see Mike?” asked Jenny.

“Yes,” said David.

“Did you see his brain?” asked Jenny.

“No,” said David.

“Then according to what we have been taught by Mike, he must not have one,” declared Jenny as she got up and walked into the house for a drink of milk.
