The Valley East Minor Ball Association held it’s final playoffs in the
middle of August to determine the division champions for the 2000
season. In the photo above, we have one of the Pee Wee winners, “The
Vision”. Front row, from the left: Adam Bryce, Josh Gelinas, Jason
Lytle and Steven Commisso. Standing: Jordana Gelinas (trainer), Ashley
Lytle, Jesse Legault, Justine Gelinas, Dean Gelinas (Coach), Alex
MacKenzie and Jamie Kilganon. Absent from the picture are Alex Bain and
Michael Bellerose. Winners in all other divisions were: T-Ball Division includes 2-4-1 Pizza; Technotronics; Dairy Queen; Food
Basics; and Valley Bingo. In the Rookie ball division: the gold medal went to Valley Plaza
Pharmacy; the silver medal to Dairy Queen; and the bronze medal to Food
Basics. Doug Beswick Chompers won the gold medal in the Mosquito division, while
George Gray Custom Brokers won the silver medal and Moncion YIG won the
bronze. In the Pee Wee division, The Vision lead by Dean Gelinas took top
honours, while Val Caron Equipment came in second place and Eva Lanctot
Realty came in with the bronze. King Sportswear prevailed in the Bantam division, narrowly edging out
Ron Gladu Photography. Valley East Lion’s Club came in with a bronze
medal. The Board of Directors would like to say a special thank you to 2-4-1
Pizza and Dairy Queen for their generous donations all season. Again,
they really added a special flavour to the T-Ball program and their
generousity did not go unnoticed. Pizza and pop were the food of the day
at the banquets that were held on September 10th. All teams
were well represented and were treated to all new awards this year. The
Valley East Minor Ball Association would like to extend a sincere
appreciation to all coaches, convenors, parents, umpires and countless
volunteers who helped the Association all year. A volunteer appreciation
night was held on the night of September 10th for all Board
members, coaches, and sponsors to celebrate the successful 2000 ball
season. Elections of new officers were held on September 5th at the
Centennial Arena. A few new faces were added to the 2001 Board with the
majority incumbent board members being re-elected. Larry Furmanic,
President of the Association is optimistic that fresh new ideas and
enthusiasm will help to continue a viable Minor Ball program in Valley
East. He feels that there are many challenges to come with the
amalgamation to the City of Greater Sudbury. |
