Young Girls Save Lives of Abandoned Kittens

The three young girls in the photo are real life heros to the four little kittens they saved and nurtured this past summer. From the left, we have Jessica Chartrand 11, Sarah Meunier 12 and Tiffany Meunier 8.

One day this summer, Tiffany was playing in her neighbour’s back yard when she heard some noise coming from the back yard stone barbecue pit. Upon closer inspection, she discovered four tiny kittens snuggled in an enclosed area near the top of the pit. Apparently, the mother cat, which was always “hanging around’ the Meunier home looking for handouts, had been missing for several day. It was determined that a fox had killed it, thus leaving the kittens facing certain death.

Kay and Rich Meunier helped their daughters bring the kittens into the house and contacted Jessica’s mother, Lina, for assistance. Together, the two families shared the kittens every other day or two, hand-feeding the young animals every four hours for almost two months in order to help them survive against the odds. The labour of love worked and soon they had found homes for all four kittens.

“It was quite an experience for all of us,” stated Rich Meunier when recalling what the girls had done. “It was nice for the girls to take part in saving the lives of the kittens. They really worked hard and accepted the responsibilities. It made them feel good to see that their work paid off.”

For Jessica, who attends Ecole Foyer-Jeunesse, and sisters Sarah and Tiffany, who attend Valley View Public School, it definitely was something that they will always remember. Because of their actions four families will enjoy years of happiness brought about by the love they receive from the pet cats that were saved by the girls. Yes, Jessica, Sarah and Tiffany - you are all heroes in our eyes. Congratulations on making a difference!
